The Statistics Department has a growing reputation as an international leader in statistical education and research. The 2010 National Research Council study placed us firmly in the top ten among all statistics departments in the US. We have a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs that serve a wide spectrum of students interested in statistics and data science.
Our faculty members are renowned researchers who work on some of the most interesting and relevant problems of the day. Among them are a MacArthur Fellow, Wald Lecturer and member of the National Academies, a recipient of the Deming Lecturer Award, editors of leading journals, and presidents and elected fellows of international statistical societies. Statistics is a part of the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA), the heart of the University of Michigan, and an extraordinary center of creativity, inquiry, and discovery. Combining the best of a research institution and a liberal arts college, students and faculty in more than 70 departments and programs explore the world's biggest questions together.
